Next Steps in Spinning

This class runs Saturday, May 25 from 10 am–5 pm and Sunday, May 26 from 10 am–1 pm.

Ready to take your next step in spinning? Spend one and a half days working alongside textile artist and educator Lesley Darling to develop new spinning skills so you can spin the yarn you want! This class is designed to take students with some previous spinning experience to the next level and is most suitable for students who come with a goal or two. Do you want to work on your yarn design? Troubleshoot your (already working) spinning wheel. Make the jump from hand spindle to wheel? Figure out which types of wool you love best. All these topics will receive thorough coverage in this highly personalized class, with ample time for individual attention from the instructor throughout the weekend.

Students must have previous experience spinning on a hand spindle or spinning wheel and are invited to bring their favorite tools, such as a functioning spinning wheel or hand spindle. Students are also encouraged to bring samples of yarn or fibers they love and want to explore more, either to use in class or for consultation with the instructor. Please note this is not a suitable class to bring a non-functioning wheel for fixing, but if you want to learn more about your wheel or need to troubleshoot an issue this is a great opportunity to do so.

A $75 materials fee is payable to the instructor and covers the use of a variety of tools as well as homegrown angora, roving, locks, silk, and other fiber sundries. Several of the instructor’s own wheels will be available for use, so you can try various models or use one if you can’t bring one along. Suitable for ages 16+.
