Intro to Embroidered Embellishments

This class meets for two sessions on Friday, June 9 and June 16.

Bring your textiles to life with simple embroidered embellishments! Basic embroidery stitches in colorful cotton or wool can turn an everyday mitten into a celebratory garment or a hodge-podge of patches into a crazy quilt. In the first session, students will begin with three widely used types of embroidery stitches to start a pattern inspired by an embroidered piece in the ASI archival collections. In the second session, students will try two more stitches and complete their design. Together with textile artist Laura Ricketts, the class will practice them and discuss possible applications to get students started on their embroidery journeys. Suitable for ages 16 and up.

This class requires students to provide their own materials. Please see the materials list here.
