Come create a fanciful mobile inspired by folk art and updated with modern materials! In the past, families in Sweden, Norway, and Finland created amazing geometric mobiles out of simple materials like straw and string. Called himmeli (a play on “heavens”) or takkronar (ceiling crowns), these mobiles were made to bring good luck and a good harvest. In this afternoon-long class, kids and teens and their special adults will work with folk artist Alison Aune to create their own himmeli using colorful materials such as paper straws, pompoms, and buttons.
A $10 materials fee is due in class for each project. Suitable for adult/child pairs, with ages 5–17 registered alongside an adult.
