Intergenerational Carve a Tomte

Join carving instructor Matt Bruch for an afternoon of intergenerational carving, where youth and adult pairs each bring a whimsical tomte to life over an afternoon! Over four hours, students will work with instructor Matt to transform a simple basswood block into a carved and painted tomte. We will practice several knife grips to safely and effectively shape the wood and also learn techniques for applying paint and a wax finish. Please note, this style of woodcarving requires average hand strength and dexterity and this class welcomes new carvers. Suitable for students ages 11–18 plus an adult to attend together.

A $10 materials fee is due to the instructor in class to cover each project. Students are encouraged to bring their own carving knife and safety glove, or they may borrow a set from ASI.
