Hooks and Hangers

Put your carving knife to work carving hooks and hangers in this one-day class! Alongside woodworking instructor Maeve Gathje, students will practice carving in the traditional green wood style, starting with a small, branched length of wood. Using the natural shape of the branch, students will shape it into a helpful hook. From there, students will tackle simple pegs and attach them to a board for any hanging storage needs. Decoration and finishing, such as additional carving, paint, or other finishes, will be discussed and demonstrated if time allows.

Prerequisites:

Physical ability: Woodcarving requires good hand strength and dexterity, for example being able to open a jam jar.

Skill level: This class is appropriate for carvers with minor prior green woodworking experience, such as ASI’s Green Woodcarving 101 workshop.

Ages: Suitable for ages 16+.

Tools & Materials:

A $30 materials fee paid to the instructor in class covers all tools and materials.
