Gullah Geechee Cuisine

Join Chef James Johnson of Cooks of Hope Catering for an evening of Gullah Geechee cuisine. In Gullah Geechee communities, where people are descendants of Africans enslaved in the Carolina coastal lowlands, fresh and vibrant food features local rice, produce, and seafood. Chef Jay will share a few of his favorite dishes in this special evening class, highlighting these ingredients.

This is a demonstration-style class that includes a light meal. Coffee and tea are provided; additional beverages are available for purchase prior to class. Please note that this menu may contain seafood, so please reach out if you have questions about dietary accommodations.

ASI’s food programs bring people together to celebrate, learn, and share stories through cooking workshops, demonstrations, dinners, and lectures. This new series, Our Shared Table, highlights our neighbors’ kitchens and how food traditions evolve through the universal experience of migration and exchange.
