Folk Painted Floral Borders

Floral borders are an iconic part of Swedish folk paintings in dalmålningar (Dalarna style paintings), helping to enhance the stories told within the frame. In this one-day intermediate workshop, painters will focus on creating beautiful borders by practicing painting straight lines, adding floral garlands and ribbons, and examining how to combine different styles of borders with various qubits. Contemporary folk artist Pieper Bloomquist will use acrylic paints to demonstrate various techniques throughout the day. However, the design skills can also be adapted to other media, such as watercolor, oil, markers, and more. Please note this skill-building class is best suited for students with some previous painting experience, and students may not head home with a finished project.

  • Skill level: Best suited for students with previous painting experience.
