This class runs for three Fridays, September 19, 26, and October 3, from 10 am – 12 pm CDT each session.
Embroidery is a beautiful way to make an everyday object feel special. Inspired by traditional Nordic embroidery designs, explore the world of wool-on-wool embroidery with various stitches and learn how to transform the fabric and liner into a miniature purse and attach the kiss clasp like a pro. All the steps and techniques featured in this course are excellent skills to learn if you are considering making a full-scale traditional purse in the future; we’ll explore beautiful examples from across history and regions as we go. Finished coin purses will be approximately 4.5”x 4” wide. The wool base fabric for this project is navy blue, and students will use a variety of embroidery yarns from the instructor’s own sheep. This class is suitable for both beginners and those with some embroidery experience. Please note, that the floral design covered in this class is a new pattern from the previous version of this class.
Skill level: Open to all skill levels.
Ages: Suitable for ages 16+.
Virtual class info: This is a live Virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.
Kit and Materials Info: Kits ($45 value) are included in the class fee. The class kit includes prepared wool fabric marked with the project design, lining fabric, clasps, embroidery needles and yarn from the instructor’s own sheep.
Students should provide thread scissors, fabric scissors, sewing needle and thread in color similar to the navy blue base fabric, thread in contrasting color to attach clasp, and fabric pins or clips. Providing your own 8-inch embroidery hoop is optional, if desired. Additional instructional PDFs and tutorials will be provided by the instructor. Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute starting September 10 or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee. Registration for this kit-based class closes September 8 or whenever sold out.
