Flat Plane Faces

This class runs five Wednesdays, February 12–March 12, from 2–5 pm each session.

Join carver Jock Holmen to tackle the details of flat-plane carved faces! Faces can be the trickiest part of a traditional Scandinavian figure but also one of the most fun parts. Over five weeks, concentrate on eyes, noses, lips and ears so you’ll be ready for any expression on your next character. This class will offer a creative and focused environment and allow for experimentation.

Prerequisites:

Physical ability: Wood carving requires average hand strength and dexterity, such as being able to open a pickle jar.

Skill level: Open to all skill levels; most students will appreciate past figure carving experience.

Ages: Suitable for ages 18+.

Tools and Materials:

A materials fee of $20 is due to instructor Jock Holmen and covers all tools and materials, although you are welcome to bring your own carving knife (a Flexcut #13 or similar) and glove if you have one. Additional figure blanks will also be available for sale.
