This class runs three Tuesdays, October 21, 28, and November 4, 6-9 pm each session.
Collect all those UFO (Unfinished Object) spoons from around your home for a mini spoon-finishing crash course with spoon carver Liesl Chatman! Whether you need to hone some final dry cuts or finishes or seek design opinions in a supportive and constructive environment, this three-week workshop is unmissable. In the first session, students will bring two to four already-in-process spoons for group review through lively discussion and constructive commentary by both the instructor and other classmates. Students will then head home with their spoons and a week to progress on their next steps. In the following sessions, students will return with updates and the opportunity for more feedback. Throughout the class, the instructor will provide demonstrations and allow for independent work as time permits. This workshop offers all participants supportive guidance, so be ready to share your experiences and opinions.
Physical ability: Moderate hand and strength and flexibility required.
Skill level: This workshop is suitable for both newer and more advanced spoon carvers who already have a stash of spoon projects in process.
Ages: Suitable for ages 18+.
Students should bring 2-4 in-process spoons for class. Not every spoon may receive full attention, and students will have to finish most of the suggested steps themselves outside of class. Some finishing materials will be available for purchase from the instructor, but we encourage you to bring your own favorite carving knives and other tools. A $15 materials fee covers additional materials including practice blanks and handouts.
