Featuring an all-star ensemble of traditional folk instruments, Skye Consort & Emma Björling perform trans-Atlantic arrangements of songs and tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, and the USA. Each musician brings their own individual interpretation to these traditions to create an extraordinary collaboration, consisting of voices, fiddle, nyckelharpa, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and percussion. Collectively, the band presents an assortment of whirling polskas, groovy reels, passionate love songs, breathtaking hymns, and original compositions.
Opening for Skye Consort & Emma Björling is the Twin Cities’ very own Renee Vaughan and the Nordstär Ensemble, a dynamic group of musicians from diverse traditions. Their music draws heavily from the Nordic tradition, with touches of French and Celtic influences, and showcases an array of instruments, including the nyckelharpa, hardingfele, säckpipa, flute, guitar, accordion, washboard, cello, uilleann pipes, cittern, and more. Prepare for a vibrant journey across musical landscapes!
