Felted Tapestry

This class runs Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, 2024, 10 am-5 pm both days.

Immerse yourself in the strong patterns of Karin Larsson’s textiles while creating a custom felted wool tapestry inspired by her favorite colors and patterns. Alongside feltmaker Elise Kyllo, students will view the ASI exhibition Karin Larsson: Let the Hand Be Seen to view a variety of textiles. Students will then practice choosing a pattern and adapting it to a felted 2-dimensional design before laying out and hand-felting their tapestry. Over this two-day class, students will practice the basics of creating a consistent felted textile along with adding decorative elements through various techniques to create a tapestry about 2’ x 4’. Appropriate for both novice and intermediate felters, this class sends students home with the knowledge to continue wet felting with two dimensional patterns and a beautiful and unique tapestry for their home.

Students need good hand strength and the ability to stand for extended periods in this wet felting class. This class is suitable for ages 16+.

A materials fee is payable to Elise Kyllo in class and is determined by amount of wool used, approximately $40. This covers all materials needed for this project. Students are also encouraged to bring 2-3 old bath towels, a bag to take home their wet project in, and an apron.
