Felted Globe Luminaries

Celebrate the winter solstice by creating felted wool luminaries, perfect for using throughout the holiday season. Using traditional wet felting techniques, students will work alongside felting instructor Judy McDowell to lay out wool in thin layers around a pattern, add soapy water and roll, rub and manipulate the wool into a perfect light-weight woolen globe that can be lit from within with a candle or string lights. This workshop requires hand strength and some extended standing. Students can expect to leave the class with one or two finished luminaries, depending on size. Suitable for ages 16+.

A materials fee of about $20–$30 is payable to the instructor, depending on the size of the projects chosen. Students are also encouraged to bring two or three old bath towels, a bag to take home wet projects in, and an apron.
