Estonian Inlay Knitting

This class runs on Wednesdays, January 24 and 31, 5–7 pm Central Time for each session.

Roositud is an inlay technique from Estonia used to create beautiful, raised embellishments on knitted mittens, socks, gloves and more. Using double pointed needles in the round, we will dive into this fun and approachable practice by making a pair of wrist warmers. No previous colorwork experience is necessary, but participants should feel comfortable working with smaller needles and yarns and working in the round.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

A yarn kit ($38 value) will be included as part of the course fee. You will need to check your gauge in advance of class; most students will use DPNS in sizes 0–3 to reach the gauge; start with the needles you have, and get a different set if needed. Feel free to also use your favorite knitting accouterments and/or chart reading supplies. Students pick one of 2 color ways for their kit at registration: dark grey or light grey base with assorted hand dyed colors for embellishment. Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute starting January 18, or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee.

Registration for this kit-based class closes on January 12.
