Drop of Midnight

Two sessions of this performance are available on April 11 and April 12, both from 7-9 pm.

ASI is excited to present A Drop of Midnight by Jason ‘Timbuktu’ Diakité, a renowned Swedish rapper, musician, and author, in partnership with The Cedar Cultural Center, Wellstone International High School, and Minneapolis Public Schools. This autobiographical musical, set for April 11 and 12, 2025, follows Diakité’s journey of self-discovery as he navigates his Senegalese and Swedish heritage. Through a dynamic blend of hip-hop, jazz, and soul, paired with spoken word and multimedia, Diakité takes audiences from the streets of New York to the quiet suburbs of Sweden. His performance reflects on identity, belonging, and the role of music in connecting cultures.

Since its debut at Harlem Stage in 2022, A Drop of Midnight has received acclaim for its innovative storytelling and rich cultural exploration. The production’s minimalist design, impactful lighting, and soundscapes enhance the emotional depth of Diakité’s reflections on dual identity and cultural fusion. This powerful performance promises an immersive experience that sparks meaningful conversations about race, identity, and the immigrant experience in today’s world.
