Design a Pocket

Class meets for two afternoon sessions, Thursdays April 18 and 25, 1-5pm.

Design and sew your own kjolväska or pocket! Students will work alongside Natalie Norman to draw inspiration from the decorative (and practical!) waist bags of Swedish folk costumes. While originally tied around the waist, kjolväskor now make excellent small cross body purses. After examining traditional designs, and practicing basic embroidery stitches, students will create a personal design and use applique and embroidery to complete their pocket front. Further discussion about construction will be addressed throughout the two class sessions, although depending on experience and the design chosen, students may not complete their entire pocket in class. Suitable for ages 18+.

A $10 materials fee paid to the instructor covers fabrics and pearl cotton thread; students should bring sewing shears, favorite hand sewing tools (such as a thimble, if you use one), and if needed, their own magnification (such as readers) for close work.
