Learn basic carving holds with an iconic Swedish Dala horse in this morning-long class! This workshop invites students to pull on some carving gloves, pick up a Swedish carving knife and pre-cut basswood blank and bring their very own Dala horse to life. Led by instructor Jess Hirsch, we’ll discuss basic carving safety, carving techniques, caring for tools and our carved objects, and finishing options. You’ll leave with a unique Dala horse ready to be painted, oiled, or otherwise embellished.
This class is for women and non-binary students comfortable with a femme approach to learning. Students need moderate hand strength and flexibility to participate. Suitable for ages 16+.
All tools and materials provided; students pay the instructor a $20 materials fee.
