The time when syrener–that is, lilacs–bloom is as much beloved in Sweden as in Minnesota. It tends to happen a little later in Sweden–late May or early June. Jag tycker att doften av syren är världens ljuvligaste. I think the scent of lilacs is the sweetest scent in the world.

In this class, we will go beyond “Dancing Queen” and explore a different popular Swedish musical artist each week. The class will feature a range of contemporary musical artists from pop to hip-hop to folk. We’ll learn about the artist’s career, listen to their work, translate some songs and maybe even sing a little! This class is open to anyone with an interest in Swedish music. Some knowledge of Swedish is helpful, but not required. Content will be in Swedish, but discussions will take place in English. Instructor Liz Stopka will discuss different artists than in previous years—it’s a perfect opportunity for past registrants to build on their music knowledge.
