Scandinavian Wooden Figure Carving

Carve in the Scandinavian style using the instructor’s original work as a basis for projects. These 13-session classes meet starting the week of September 11. Six class periods are offered and are listed below. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Class participants must have decent hand dexterity and control. If questionable, please touch base with the instructor upon the first day of class.

Carving tools are required, but are available for purchase in class. Materials fee for figure carving blanks are payable to the instructor.

Beginning carving kit includes: carving knife, glove, and one figure blank, $65

Instructor

Bill Jaeger has been the Scandinavian Wooden Figure Carving Instructor at ASI since 2002. His interest in woodcarving has lead him to attend classes at Sätergläntan Folkschool in Sweden and has inspired him to teach carvers all around the Midwest. Bill received the Gold Medal for Woodcarving at the Vesterheim Museum’s Folk Art Competition in 2009.

Materials Fee

For beginners, a carving kit includes: carving knife, glove, and one figure blank, $65

$145 ASI members, $160 nonmembers. Register by Monday, Sept.4—to receive the early registration price and receive $10 off class tuition.
