American Swedish Institute Adds Thursday Evening Hours

MINNEAPOLIS – The American Swedish Institute, including the Museum, FIKA Café and the ASI Museum Store, will add Thursday evening hours starting Thursday, May 6, 2021.  The new public hours will be Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advance reservations are still required to visit the museum, but now visitors can choose a day and arrive anytime during open hours. Reserve online or call 612-871-4907 to reserve. Visitors must use face coverings and maintain safe distances. ASI has free, on-site parking and is located at 2600 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55407.

Exhibitions Currently On View

Papier, through July 11, 2021

Now on view in Osher Gallery and the Turnblad Mansion is Papier, showcasing artist-designer Bea Szenfeld’s striking paper couture, worn by such pop icons as Lady Gaga and Björk, united with artist-author Stina Wirsén’s evocative illustrations. Papier makes its Midwest debut at ASI as one of only two stops in the U.S. Visit in person or register at ASImn.org for the final virtual, interactive tour at 5 p.m., Friday May 7.

Lace Reimagined — Amy Sands, through July 11, 2021

Twin Cities-based artist Amy Sands creates one-of-a-kind paper works using traditional and digital methods of printmaking. Her latest body of work, supported by a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant, draws on ASI’s textile collection to inspire new patterns and prints. The exhibition is on display in ASI’s Link (between the Mansion and Nelson Cultural Center) and outside on the ASI historic fence.

FIKA Café

FIKA is open with both indoor and outdoor dining, pending weather. The full menu is served Thursday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday – Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. FIKA will accommodate walk-in customers as individuals and in groups under 6 as capacity allows. Reservations can be made for groups of more than 6 by contacting fika@asimn.org or 612- 524-5108. Check in and order from the counter. The Marketplace pre-order, take-out menu offers a Swedish meatball dinner, daily soups, house-made breads, cardamom buns and traditional Swedish cookies, as well as items from the lunch menu. A 24-hour advance notice for all pre-orders is required.

The ASI Museum Store

A destination shopping site for Nordic-inspired gifts, the ASI Museum Store sells glassware, textiles, books, jewelry, food and candy plus unique decorative items. Museum Admission

Museum Admission: $12 adults, $8 seniors ages 62 +, $6 ages 6–18 and full-time students with ID.

Free for ASI members and children ages 5 and under.
